What we score, and why

   Functionality

   Toilet usable, pan/commode intact, flush/pour-flush works, plumbing works, no major blockage/leak

   Why it matters

   The first question is simply: can a child actually use it?
2. 02

   Water & Handwashing

   Reliable water at toilet, storage/tank where needed, working taps, handwashing point, soap availability

   Why it matters

   A toilet without water isn't genuinely functional.
3. 03

   Cleanliness & Hygiene

   Floor/pan cleanliness, smell, waste, drainage, cleaning supplies and evidence of regular cleaning

   Why it matters

   Separates a technically functional toilet from one children are actually comfortable using.

   Privacy, Safety & Dignity

   Door, working internal latch, adequate enclosure, lighting, ventilation, safe access and no unacceptable exposure

   Why it matters

   Particularly important for adolescent girls and central to Go Clean's mission.

   Menstrual Hygiene Readiness

   Private changing environment, water within/near cubicle, disposal bin with lid, safe disposal arrangement

   Why it matters

   Makes the Index explicitly recognise the needs that can cause adolescent girls to avoid school.

   Maintenance & Sustainability

   Responsible person/SMC (School Management Committee) identified, cleaning routine, supplies/budget arrangement, minor-repair mechanism, condition sustained at follow-up

   Why it matters

   Measures whether Go Clean's intervention is likely to stay working rather than deteriorate again.
